Gold Tower in Mestia

Mestia has a special place in my heart, and this hotel gave me a warm stay I’ll remember. The rooms were comfortable, and the cheerful, helpful staff made a real difference. Service and friendliness hadn’t been good during the rest of our time in Georgia, but this place was different. The woman at the counter always greeted us, and it was the only hotel that invited us to breakfast. I think we arrived before ski season and may have been the only guests.

The breakfast was the one part I enjoyed. It was quite good and had a decent variety. Everything else was a miss for me. When I arrived, I asked about parking. The receptionist told me to open the gate, but showed no real interest in helping. I undid the chains, opened it, parked, then closed and chained it back up myself. She handed me a key and said to enjoy my stay, without explaining anything. I had to ask where my room was and where breakfast would be. She asked whether I wanted breakfast at 9 because other guests had chosen that time, but I have my own travel plans. I got the Wi-Fi details after settling in, once she’d already left, though luckily they were written beside the counter. The room was very small, even though I chose the three-bed option for more space, and far too hot without air conditioning, despite it only being May 9. The toilet seat was broken and the toilet stopped flushing after its first use. The pillows were incredibly thick and made sleeping miserable. The mirror was placed awkwardly, perhaps for someone no taller than 1.70m, and the rain shower leaked. The curtains barely blocked anything, so sunlight came straight in and woke me as soon as the sun was up. There was no one at reception when I left in the morning.

The food was wonderful, the rooms were comfortable, and the location was perfect. I had a great two-day stay with my friends and would definitely recommend it.

We’d planned to stay one night, but ended up booking a second because we liked it so much. It was the best accommodation of our week in Georgia. Highly recommend.
