Mestia Roots

We left breakfast feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. When I asked for milk for my three children, we received about 200 ml, roughly a third of a bottle, and afterward the staff were noticeably absent until we had left the dining area. Breakfast overall felt like an improvised setup for staff and their children more than for paying guests. Our room was next to an outdoor seating spot where staff, including the manager, often smoked, and cigarette smoke would drift into the room. That was especially unpleasant and unhealthy with children. The rooms were clean, but small repairs to fixtures and fittings had been ignored even though they seemed like easy, inexpensive fixes. The manager can communicate in basic English, which I appreciate, but in my experience she seemed poorly suited to managing the property and showed little interest in guest experience or maintenance. Mestia Roots may have potential, but hospitality, management, and guest care need major improvement. Sadly, based on our stay, I can’t recommend it.

There’s a huge veranda on the top floor where we spent evenings drinking wine, listening to music, and looking at the surrounding nature. Our room was comfortable and had a balcony, and the hotel was clean. Breakfast had a mix of local and European food. One note: finding the hotel the first time wasn’t easy. It’s behind another hotel, and we missed the tiny sign pointing to it.

Set in greenery just behind Gistola Hotel Mestia, the hotel has a peaceful feel while still being a short walk from Mestia’s city center. It’s brand-new, with modern rooms and the essential amenities, and can host up to 40 guests. The spacious rooftop terrace has a barbecue area and mountain views. The owners are warm and welcoming, and the staff are professional.

It’s a normal hotel, but I don’t think it’s worth the price. The breakfast was very poor, there weren’t any water glasses in the room, and the room appliances weren’t high quality.
