The place is lovely, with good wine and food, but getting there means taking a hard-to-find dirt road. It’s also far from everything, and the hotel’s taxi comes at a very high rate.

It’s so quiet here that you don’t feel close to anywhere, and that’s part of what makes this chateau special. The Georgian countryside road passes pomegranate trees and vineyards, so bring a car or arrange a local taxi. You can hike in, but luggage would make it difficult. Once you’re there, there’s a panoramic view, lovely architecture, friendly and helpful staff, and a nice pool, bar, and restaurant. The food is especially good with that view. It’s a peaceful place for a low-key holiday or for a celebration, wedding, and the like.

I loved relaxing on the terraces and looking out over the vineyards and Caucasus mountains. The surrounding scenery is stunning, and the hotel itself is calm and restful. For days we didn’t hear any traffic. The pool was clean and warm, the place was tidy, and the hospitality was great. Breakfast had lots of delicious choices, and the chef deserves special credit for the tasty dishes. One of the best hotels in Kakheti.
