Okropilauri Guest House

The cottages felt modern, new and cosy, a bit like being in Austria. They were well equipped, the hosts were friendly, and we even got a nice dinner there for a fair price. The hosts spoke only Russian and Georgian, though. The location shown on booking.com is wrong, so use Google Maps to find the right spot. It seemed they hadn’t noticed our booking and were surprised when we arrived. Our room also hadn’t been cleaned properly: the freezer had leaked, leaving the floor and rug wet. We cleaned it ourselves because the kids were playing on the floor. Maybe we were just unlucky, but the walls are quite thin.

We fell for the peaceful setting first. The cottage is in Okropilauri, near Shuakhevi, close to the road but tucked away from the noise and surrounded by beautiful nature. There’s plenty to see nearby, including an ancient fortress within walking distance. The first 23 km of the road to Chirukhi mountain is paved, with gorgeous views and hardly any traffic. Our cottage was new and stylish, with an equipped kitchen, cosy living room, bedroom, and a large balcony with a seating area facing the mountains and river. The garden is shady and lush, and the owner’s wine was delicious. We loved our stay and wish the hosts all the best.

The people, food and views all made this a healing stay. Up in the mountains, with the river breeze and those gorgeous peaks, it felt like the sky was the limit and happiness was close by. Thanks for having us, and keep up the great work!

The owner was very polite, and the wine cellar is impressive. The houses are cosy and sit in a nice spot. I’d definitely recommend this place.
