Kolkhida Resort & Spa

The room was in very poor condition. There was no chair on the balcony, and shower water went everywhere in the bathroom. The food selection was poor and too spicy, so the kids couldn't eat it. The jacuzzi wasn't working, and the kids' pool was damaged.

This is a large sanatorium that has specialized in treating patients with musculoskeletal diseases since the Soviet period. It has a spacious, very green grounds right on the beachfront, and it's the only facility of its kind on the coast. The staff are responsive and responsible, but the rooms need renovation and there is no elevator.

The location is perfect, and the hotel was okay. We visited in low season, so some facilities were closed and staff attention was low. Service and food were average, but given what I paid and expected, it wasn't the worst experience.

I loved Ureki's sandy beach, and I may visit Ureki again, but I will never stay at Kolkhida again. I waited until I was home to write this because thinking about my stay there would have spoiled the rest of my vacation. The pool, garden, building to some extent, and beach are very nice. Everything else was awful: the room and bathroom were unbelievably dirty and rusty, the worn-out mattress had springs sticking out, and the wifi didn't work. They only brought bottled water once, on check-in day. There was a kettle but no coffee, tea, or cups in the room. The food was bland, Soviet Union style, and the room cost far too much for what they offered. When I raised these problems with management, they were initially caring and apologetic. Then an old lady came in, spoke to the manager in Georgian, and left. I later learned she was the owner. After that, the manager became cold and careless and even told me, "if you don't like it you can leave." So I did, after one night of a four-night stay. The resort has so much potential as a holiday destination, which makes the way it's run heartbreaking.
