Xii Century

Nanuka, her husband, and the rest of the family made us feel so welcome. They cook fresh, homemade food that was really tasty. We were five, and the stay was affordable and better value than the other guesthouses on our hike. The room in the ‘new’ section was simple but very good, with clean sheets, electricity, and everything neat. It was the best place we stayed during our 4 day hike in Svaneti. I’d strongly recommend Nanuka and her family 🇬🇪💪☀️

After a trek, it was lovely to sit in the spacious garden with their yummy cake and a beer. Dinner was mouth watering, with fresh, authentic Sventi food, and the shared bathrooms were kept very clean. There’s also a cozy indoor space to relax and have dinner in the evening when it’s cold. The rooms felt like a Swiss chalet, modern, warm, comfortable, and spotless. Everyone working there was friendly, laid back, and helpful. Staying here was worth every penny, a real gem in Ushguli.

The hotel XII century served the best food we tried in the village, after having lunch and dinner at several places. Their Svaneti salt was so good that I regret not bringing some home. The family was lovely and always ready to help, and their daughter speaks perfect English. Our room was very clean. Pingrou, their big, gentle Caucasian shepherd dog, was a sweet presence too. The hotel is in Ushguli’s old town, right below the tower and fortress, with easy access to a wonderful sunrise and sunset spot. I’d definitely stay here again.

The hosts were incredibly welcoming, and XII Century served the most authentic Svanetian food I tried among the places I visited in Svaneti. It’s also a historic place, which made the experience feel unique. A must visit in Ushguli.
