M Plaza Hotel

The place feels very old and needs repairs throughout, including the bath, shower, lights, and phones. Reception was unfriendly, even aggressive, though the regular staff were kind and tried to help. Management should put money into fixing the hotel.

I stayed for a week and didn’t break the bank. M Plaza is fine if you just need somewhere to stay, but it isn’t a resort. It’s close to the airport and not near much else, though Le Jardin, a lovely little restaurant and pub, is around the corner. There’s also a very nice courtyard pool. The hotel has a stately old feel, but it’s past its prime. The professional, friendly staff know what they’re doing, and the facilities work for small gatherings or big conferences. The food is very nice, especially the conference meals. I like a firm mattress, so I slept well, though my wife probably wouldn’t. Some rooms have small balconies, if it isn’t too hot. On the downside, the Wi-Fi is unreliable, the rooms are extremely dim and hard to read in at night, and there’s no coffee service in the room. The regular restaurant isn’t great. There’s mold on the bathroom ceiling and geckos on the hallway walls. A state of the art, Chinese-owned hotel is just up the street, though I assume it costs much more. If you can look past the surface issues and appreciate the service and history, it’s an okay place.

The hotel feels peaceful and tidy, with a lovely ambience and a sweet scent. The staff were welcoming, friendly, and well trained. Guests also get free handy phones for internet and voice calls until checkout. I’d recommend it to anyone visiting Accra, Ghana.

This place feels like a shell of what it used to be. The hallway carpets stink, and there’s barely any airflow out there. The water either doesn’t come on or comes out so salty that soap won’t lather.
