Oceanic Hotel

We chose this place because we wanted to stay near Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and avoid the traffic while visiting my mother, who was admitted there. My wife and I booked the top-of-the-range Premium Deluxe Double Room, but the first room we were given was dirty, with a chamber and hall layout. Of its three air conditioners, only one ran, and it blew hot air. The other two didn’t work. The bathroom was dim, the heater was broken, and the shower was in poor condition and very dirty. We reported the problems to the front desk and were moved to a room at a much lower level than what we had paid for. It was even worse. Although the AC was on, we were sweating heavily. After another complaint, they gave us a third room, which was somewhere between the first two. It was a bit cleaner, but the air conditioning was still bad, and in all three rooms it couldn’t be controlled with the remote. Only one TV channel worked. For the high prices they quoted, the only thing going for the place is its location. Even though some rooms face the sea, the balcony access is locked, so guests can’t go out there. The place looks nice outside but was very bad inside, and I wouldn’t recommend it. Some staff members were very nice and understanding.

I didn’t stay in a room, just used the pool and bar/restaurant, which were good enough. The pool is great when it’s quiet, but it can get really crowded on holidays.

The place smelled bad inside and out, and trash was being burned near the resort. Our room smelled like mothballs and was dirty, so we had to ask for it to be cleaned. I ordered a club sandwich, but the menu made it look like it came with large pieces of chicken. What arrived had minced chicken, more like chicken salad. The food was overpriced, and there wasn’t much on the menu. Local people were allowed to use the pool. A lot of them didn’t look clean, and the children left all kinds of trash in the water. There was so much floating around that my husband asked for the pool to be cleaned before we went in, and I still didn’t want my kids swimming there. My family felt uncomfortable getting in with all that trash. I’m black too, by the way, and don’t mean that as a racist comment. The cleaning crew misplaced some things in the bathroom. When we told management that items were missing, he said he’d look into it. After that, the cleaning staff started treating us nastily, and two days later immigration officers came to the hotel around seven in the morning asking to see our passports and visas. It’s a trashy hotel in a trashy neighborhood, with a trashy beach, food, and workers. I wouldn’t recommend staying here to anyone, even if your taste is trashy too.
