Paradise Ocean Resort

It was a quiet stop when I visited, with a lovely view from the dining area. A great place to sit back with a beer. The shower pressure could have been better, but the stay was fantastic value.

Getting here means taking a rough, unpaved road, though the hotel was worth the trip. The mango smoothie alone made the drive worthwhile. Not every room had hot water, but we'd come back. If you enjoy birding, there are lots of different bird species around. A lovely hotel in Cape Coast.

The restaurant is a highlight for us. Linda's groundnut stew is the best, the grilled tilapia is fabulous, and the ocean view makes the meal even better. From the beach, we can watch the fishing boats moving in and out of Morree harbor at night, with lights across the bay. We've stayed at Paradise Ocean several times over the past three months and loved each visit. It's peaceful, right on the beach, and close to a nature reserve and fishing village. The hosts are warm and friendly, and the rooms are clean, comfortable, and well organized. Wi-Fi is excellent, too. Cape Coast, Elmina, and Kakum Park are only a short drive away, so we can visit during the day and come back to the quiet beach in the evening, with the surf in the background.

The service from Joseph, the owner, and Ebenezer, the manager, was fantastic. I only had a bowl of peanut soup for dinner, and it was delicious. Other British and American guests told me the main meals were excellent. The bar restaurant has a nice view, though two huge palm trees block some of the scenery. During the day, chainsaws from canoe makers on the nearby beach can get annoying while you're sitting there. That's not something the owners can control. I stayed one night while visiting Elmina and Cape Coast castles. Google Maps made the place easy to find. The road to the lodge is a little rough, but a capable driver should manage it. I even saw a white lady driving a Ford Focus there and back, so you don't need a Toyota Landcruiser or Nissan Patrol. 😂 The rooms were decent, with hard mattresses, which seems standard in Ghana, and good TV reception. Wi-Fi is available, though the signal wasn't strong inside the chalets. There was hot water in the bathroom. The light by the bathroom sink in my chalet didn't work, but for a single night it wasn't a big issue. There isn't much natural light in the rooms, so next time I'd bring a couple of lamps. I thought the beach could be reached directly from the accommodation, but you actually leave the resort, turn left onto the dirt road, and walk about 7 minutes. It isn't obvious where to get down to the sand; the nearest way looks difficult because you'd have to go down rocks. I was happy with my stay and would book again for a night or two at most. It's reasonably priced and works well as a base for the nearby castles and forts. I'd visit Elmina first, then Cape Coast, and Fort William last, to finish close to Moree.
