Monipee Hotel

From the outside, the flowers and garden look lovely, and the reception staff were okay. Inside, though, the rooms are poorly kept and the area isn't peaceful. Damp walls make the rooms feel stuffy. The washrooms are dirty and badly maintained, and the water is discolored or sometimes doesn't flow. You can't judge the place by its appearance. Management needs to focus on the rooms and replace the old furniture and equipment to meet customer expectations.

The water was a serious problem. It came out yellow about half the time, and my husband developed a tooth infection that the dentist said was from brushing with it. We also got skin rashes, and those problems stopped once we left. I got sick after finding mothballs in the fridge, which staff said were camphor, and they contaminated all my food. The place looks beautiful when you first arrive, but this was my worst hotel experience in Ghana. When I sent my 7-year-old daughter to pick something up for our room, the receptionist asked her very personal questions about our family. Staff were mostly rude to me, and I don't know if that was because I was a foreigner or because I had complained. Management was slow to act and seemed shady. The security guard was asleep during the night more than once. I might not have mentioned it, but armed robbers broke in, with gunshots sounding right outside our windows. Management never came to explain anything to the guests. My husband asked the next day and was told the robbers had targeted the gold refinery on the premises. They said security had been increased and police were standing guard, but neither was true. The following night the guard was still asleep and the gate was unlocked. At 1 am I had to leave my children in the room and go down to open the gate for my husband, who'd been honking for over 15 minutes. I'm also nine months pregnant. We had planned an extended stay but left because of all this. If you want to avoid hospital bills and have some respect and peace of mind, don't stay here.

I love hanging out at Monipee. It's beautiful, the reception is good, and the service is great. The event area, summer hut, and pool are okay, though they're still working on a few things. This lovely hotel is a real asset to the Golden city and its municipality. Go enjoy yourself there.

The landscape is immaculate, the food is awesome, and the receptionist, caterers, and cleaners are amazing. It's sad to give the hotel 3 stars, but maintenance problems are why, and I think upper management is responsible. The rooms are spacious and clean, but the bathrooms leak, the water doesn't run consistently, and there's a bad smell. Some toilets are badly stained, along with other maintenance and water issues. We were a group, and several people had to shower in other people's rooms because their own water wasn't flowing or their bathrooms leaked badly. The owner or whoever's in charge needs to spend money fixing the leaks. I think they're causing the smell in the corridors and on the stairs. If you stay upstairs, get a clean bucket and fill it at night when the water is running, or early in the morning. Otherwise you could end up stuck in the shower with soap on you and no water. True story, it happened to my husband.
