The rooms are plain, but they were clean and had the basics I needed, including a private bathroom and desk. The newer transit wing feels like a business hotel, and the staff were friendly and efficient. There’s a café, cafeteria, restaurant, and bar, plus easy access to hikes, ice-cap tours, musk ox spotting, and northern lights trips. Being right by the airport is hard to beat when you’re flying in or out. It costs more than it feels like it should, though. Handy for a stopover or exploring outdoors, but a tough sell if you’re watching your budget.

The receptionist was helpful, and the Wi-Fi worked well. My room was basic and roomy, though it wasn’t especially clean. The cafeteria food was great!

The rooms were warm and cozy, the water was hot, and the staff were very friendly. I also liked the food, and the hotel is right at the airport, so you just go upstairs to reception after landing. There are no night flights to disturb you. Housekeeping came daily, with a cafeteria downstairs for meals and hot drinks and a bar by reception for alcohol. The building itself was only average. Some room doors stuck and took repeated hard slamming to shut, enough to shake things in my room when someone in my group was trying to close theirs. The bathroom sink drained so slowly that I had to leave the tap barely running or it would fill up. I didn’t look closely at the bathroom tiles because I wasn’t sure I wanted to see what was there. It’s a remote, sparsely populated place, so I wasn’t expecting five-star rooms or service. Just keep in mind there are lots of stairs and long corridors if you have limited mobility.

I was told I could have breakfast at the Hotel even though I was staying at the Polar lodge. But when I went down to eat, the employee asked me to pay. I explained what I’d been told, but it didn’t help, so I paid to avoid a problem. I’d already paid for breakfast at the Polar lodge, and I hardly needed to steal a 10 euros breakfast. Being treated as if I were doing that was really unacceptable. I hope I never have to come back to the hotel.

The room never got cleaned during my four nights, even after I asked for room service after a couple of nights. When I followed up, the manager said they were short-staffed and exhausted. I don’t see how that’s my problem after paying US$1,200.00 for four nights. The welcome at reception was unfriendly, though the two young men working there were the only pleasant people I met. The hotel could use fresh paint and new carpeting. There aren’t many places to stay in Kangerlussuaq, so it may be your only option, but I wouldn’t recommend it. A very disappointing stay.
