Hotel Sømandshjemmet Sisimiut

The gym is small but well equipped, and there are comfortable lounge areas between the lobby, restaurant, and room hallway. It’s a bit of a walk into downtown, though I thought the trade-off was worthwhile. The hotel is modern and comfortable, pleasantly close to the harbor, with terrific views.

I stayed at Hotel Søma for four nights and really enjoyed it. The hiking maps at reception came in handy, and the staff were always helpful. One person cheerfully helped me deal with some unexpected travel complications, which I’m still grateful for. The rooms were very nice and breakfast was delicious. Thank you!

The musk-ox burger was greasy and undercooked, and several items listed on the cafe menu weren't actually available. The cafe is open to anyone after 4:30 PM, but you can't have a beer with a burger there, only non-alcoholic drinks. We asked, but they insisted it wasn't possible, even though the restaurant is just five meters away and requires reservations. Check-in felt awkward and rushed, and they didn't tell us the meal times or Wi-Fi information. We had a rather unpleasant stay and dining experience. I wish we'd chosen Hotel Sisimiut instead, though we ended up retreating to an Airbnb in town, which was a much better option.

The spa and sauna have beautiful views of the harbor and distant mountains, and there’s also a small fitness room. The staff were friendly, competent, helpful, and kind. Rooms were clean and tidy. The hotel is within walking distance of Sisimiut ferry terminal and right next to the museum. They’re building an extension, which will add more rooms when it’s done. We’ll certainly try to stay here on our next visit to Sisimiut.
