The Plantation Gambia

We stayed two nights and couldn’t find anything wrong. What a hidden gem. Nikki and Neil pampered us and were perfect hosts. The food was fantastic, thoughtfully prepared and served. Thank you both so much.

January 2020 was my first visit to The Plantation, after a long day and three solo flights. Nikki, Dad and their driver met me at the airport, all excited, and drove me through the glorious heat at 3am to my lovely room at the The Plantation Boutique Hotel. Nikki had made hand-stitched bed linen as a luxury gift, which I appreciated so much, even if it wouldn’t fit in my case for the flight home! The multicoloured toilet sensor light was a bonus too. I woke to birdsong, crickets and wildlife, plus welcome sunshine and warmth. It was a lovely change from busy city life. The grounds are gorgeous, with well-kept gardens, outside seating, and an indoor bar and restaurant. Every room has luxury loungers and a shaded porch, all set around the fresh, clean pool, just steps from the bar and restaurant. Rooms are cleaned daily, extra towels are available if you ask, and there’s a safe in each room. It’s a secure, peaceful retreat outside the busy tourist areas, though a short taxi ride for a very reasonable fare gets you to shops and nightlife if you want them. Nikki, Neil and Jamie all had birthdays while I was there, and we all went out for an amazing meze at Shiraz restaurant. Highly recommend it. Thanks to everyone for an outstanding meal. We had some dancing and drinks afterward before Leona and Jamie headed home. A great night all round. Round two in January 2021! 😉👍☀️ If you want adventure and a true picture of The Gambia, there are lots of trips on offer on the board in the bar and restaurant. Ask if you have something else in mind. Drivers and guides can be arranged too. Nikki also offers beauty treatments, including poolside massage, hair and nail treatments, if you book ahead. The food here is amazing, from chicken, beef and fish cooked in banana leaves to pasta, curry and vegetarian dishes. All outstanding. Thanks for indulging us with the Burns Night Supper 😉👍! There are also the ‘ifit’s’, which Nikki can explain, and Dad’s experimental brunches. Alice arrived the night before I left and was in her element by the pool with the sun, lounger, refreshments, book and ifit’s 😁! My winner was the homemade satay sauce with boiled eggs on fresh crusty bread. It’s not the same at home, Nix 🙄 I’m rambling, so I’ll just say I had a fabulous time at The Plantation Boutique Hotel in The Gambia. Nikki and Neil are amazing hosts and do their best to meet any requests. Nikki and Neil, the owners, go out of their way to make your stay comfortable and pleasant. You get a personal level of service and an authentic experience at The Plantation. It’s an excellent place to stay in The Gambia. Highly recommend!

We had a lovely night with Neil and Nikki, our hosts. The surroundings were super, the drinks were cold, and the BBQ was lovely. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was fresh, homemade, and nicely prepared and presented. We even ran into an old school friend at the next table, which felt surreal! There are lovely rooms too if you want to stay overnight, for a small cost. Come and see for yourself, you won’t be disappointed. A warm welcome awaits!
