Bamboo Village Resort

The rooms were perfect, huge and open, with walk-in showers and super king-size beds. They were cleaned daily. The staff were fantastic, and the garden and bird sanctuary were beautiful, with several gorgeous peacocks. The location is amazing, next to the strip but not on it, so there was no noise or traffic disruption. Loved staying here and have already rebooked.

I was staying across the street at another hotel, but came here for food during the day. Mariama, who cooks in the kitchen, is absolutely amazing and so sweet. She knows what she's doing, and her African food is delicious. I'd especially recommend her Chicken Afra. She's off on Mondays, so visit another day. Next time I'm in Gambia, I'll stay here for the food. The daytime bar staff, Fa Ceesay, and waiter Abubacarr also gave excellent service and took care of everything I needed.

The service was impeccable, and the place was well kept. Our first room was quite noisy in the evening because of loud music from the bar across the street, but they changed it for us right away.

I really liked the hotel otherwise. My boyfriend and I stayed for a few nights, but during our first evening a bundle of CFA cash we had left on a table disappeared. We couldn't open the safe, so we had planned to leave it there for an hour before heading out to exchange it for Dalasi. We searched everywhere when we got back, and knew it had been on the table because we'd talked about it earlier. Since the room had been cleaned, we wondered if it had been mistaken for tips, and I told reception that wasn't what we'd intended. The receptionist said she'd look into it, and we went to the ATM. When we returned shortly afterwards, the whole cleaning staff came to our room to talk with us, which felt strange. They left and asked us to search again. We turned the room upside down, even checking the bathroom trashcan twice, then gave up and went to the pool. About an hour later, the cash had appeared in the trashcan. That seemed very suspicious. It's obvious someone took it, but we only wanted our money back, not to get someone in trouble for one bad decision. The staff involved shamed us for not searching hard enough, which upset me. I think they should have been honest or said it had been mistaken for tips. Apart from that, the facilities and activities were very good. The food and bar staff were super nice and welcoming, as was the activities leader.
