Senegambia Beach Hotel

Our family of five had a wonderful stay at the Senegambia beach hotel. The kids are 4, 7 and 9, and all the staff were friendly. Special thanks to Majaw Jobe! I'd recommend the hotel to anyone.

The location right by the beach and the huge pool made the stay even more memorable. I also enjoyed the different activities on offer each day. The staff were welcoming and helpful, and Zaid Dhauya deserves a special thank you. He was consistently professional, considerate, and ready to help, which added a lot of warmth to the holiday. I had a lovely stay at the Senegambia Beach Hotel and will be back!

The location is the main draw: right on the Senegambia strip, by the beach, with food at the beach pool bar. Restaurants and bars are an easy walk away. The rooms feel dated and the entertainment is okay. I also found the staff unfriendly unless they were tipped for doing their jobs, and felt they discriminated against guests who aren't English or European. NDateh, the egg lady, was a bright spot, always greeting me with a genuine smile and seeming happy in her work. That's where the positives end.

The hotel treated Black Americans like second-class guests while white visitors were treated like royalty. The difference in courtesy, respect, tone, and service was impossible to miss. I likely spent more than most guests, yet I was still questioned, dismissed, and spoken to in ways white guests weren't. This isn't about money or manners. It feels like internalized colonial thinking in the way people are treated. White guests were prioritized, welcomed, and accommodated; Black Americans were made to feel lucky just to be there. That's unacceptable, especially in Africa. Black Americans come looking for connection, history, and respect. We're diaspora, not tourists asking for charity. We share blood and history, and often bring significant economic value, yet are treated as lesser. Colonialism took land, and it still shows in people's mindsets. Do better. Black Americans don't stay here!!!
