Radisson Blu Hotel, Conakry

The pool is lovely, and the food is good. Breakfast was very good too, and service was up to the chain's standard. It's close to the airport, in Kippe, and every room has a sea view. Best hotel in Conakry.

I only went to the poolside bar with some friends, I didn't stay at the hotel. The local beer and food were extremely expensive, so I'd have expected better service. The beers took ages, and getting the waiter's attention was a struggle. The woman who eventually served us was useless and kept looking around as if hoping someone else would help.

The conference was at the Radisson, and I saw two staff members in the restroom sitting on the sink and watching videos on their phones. A woman in a wheelchair was struggling to open the door, but neither of them moved to help. It was their job, and even if it hadn't been, we're human. I helped her get inside, reach the soap, and activate the sensor tap. One of the staff finally got up when we were nearly finished. My own booking was cancelled without warning three weeks after I had reserved and paid by credit card for a room for the conference on 11 Nov. The hotel said the organizers had asked them to give my room to other people. I met many other professionals in the same situation. None had been notified, and we had all travelled from another continent. I had to find another hotel an hour from the venue in a country I'd never visited. Luckily, hotel particulier kept its promises.

The pool was the highlight, one of the best I've had at a hotel. The gym was really nice too, with plenty of machines and room. It's a beautiful new hotel, and the rooms are clean and spacious, with enormous beds.
