Would I return? Yes. The best part was easily the terrace and private pool, with loungers and a dining table. We had the larger room, so I understand our terrace and pool were bigger too. The view was breathtaking, with unobstructed sunsets, boats, pelicans, hummingbirds, and more. The little pool was perfect after our hikes. The room itself looked beautiful and felt spacious, as did the terrace, but function seemed to come second to presentation in a few places. The double bed was oddly small for the room. My feet hung over the edge, and I nearly fell off several times while trying not to squash my partner. We left the king-size pullout couch closed because we didn’t want to aggravate our back problems. The shower looks lovely until you realize using it floods the whole bathroom. Small things, but noticeable. There isn’t much nearby. The restaurant by the beach was awful, so I’d include it in the “nothing around” category. Franco's BBQ is about a five-minute walk, then Coeur de Pigeon pizza is another five minutes down the road. Both are good, and there’s a sidewalk the whole way. Driving means no punch for you, and parking is, well, French-style. Bring your ugly car. The grounds felt a bit desert-like, which was strange and somewhat depressing on an island with tropical forest, though it hardly matters since you only pass through to reach your door. Wear flip-flops on the deck because the battered teak has fibers sticking up that can give you nasty splinters. The umbrella is there, at least, though it’s missing screws and could use a screwdriver repair. The internet was the worst I’ve seen in years. You can get email, and that’s about it. The room service, though, was spot on every time, and we never even saw them. Perfect. I spent a while thinking before writing this because I wanted to love the hotel, and I think I do. The front desk experience was variable depending on who helped us. Management could use checklists and some basic courtesy training. Just one person spoiled that part, but it happened when we arrived after a long flight and drive, which was the last thing we wanted to deal with.

The food was creative, a brilliant mix of Caribbean and modern cooking with some bold combinations. Breakfast was especially good, tasted fresh, and came right to my room so I could eat while looking out at the wonderful landscape. The lodges are cozy, simple, efficient, and peaceful in nature, with a lovely view of Bouillante. Pool size depends on the room type. It’s a great place to switch off and rest, and the staff were so kind and helpful, which is rare in the region. The Wi-Fi didn’t work at all, which was a shame. Still, it made us slow down and enjoy the moment instead of being on social media. If you’re in the area, stay here. You’ll fall for it quickly.

The price is steep, but that view makes it worthwhile! 🌅

The hospitality was great, and the team was very accommodating. The location is great too. I’d suggest adding safety features for older guests and people with disabilities, such as handrails along the stairways.

The food was the one part that fell short of the standard I’d expect from a place like this. The website presents it as a restaurant with a menu, but we were served a set menu with no choices, and the quality was very average. We had a wonderful stay in a suite overlooking Pigeon Island. The accommodation was clean and very good, ideal for a couple’s getaway, and even came with a private punch bowl.
