Arawak

The hotel could use some fresh paint. On our last day the room had no water. We were told the whole town was affected, but the hotel should have tanks on hand for something like that.

When our Air Canada flight was canceled because of Tropical storm Phillip, Arawak Beach Resort took in a busload of stranded passengers. We felt safe through the storm, and the staff and manager made us feel welcome and looked after even though our stay was brief. The grounds were lovely, our room was extremely clean, and I had a gorgeous ocean view. The meals were good too, and the bartender poured a strong rum and coke. We ended up delayed another day and were accommodated again when we returned. They kept our check-in details, so we got the same rooms, which made the hassle much easier. A tasty dinner buffet appeared again with very little notice, and the drinks kept flowing that second night. Thanks to everyone at Arawak. I'd like to come back in sunnier weather.

The spring mattress was really uncomfortable, and the hotel feels dated. Still, the views from the lobby and bedrooms are stunning, and the location right on the beach is hard to beat. It's on a busy central street in Gosier, close to restaurants and shops, and about a ten-minute walk from the boat port for the little island called "Islet Gosier," which is a must-see. Breakfast was included, with a good range of basics like fruit, yogurt, bread, pastries, eggs and omelettes, plus coffee and tea. They didn't have sugar substitutes such as stevia or Equal, or milk alternatives like soy or almond. Staff were nice and ordered some Equal and soy milk for me, though it took two days. At this price I'd expect those options, so I'd email requests ahead next time. Guadeloupe isn't a mass-tourism destination like Jamaica, the Bahamas or Mexico, and hotel standards aren't the same. It's a gorgeous island and well worth visiting. I really liked this hotel and would recommend it, even though I wish I could give it five stars.

A week at the arawak beach hotel in guadeloupe was lovely. The staff were welcoming and helpful, breakfast was great, and the cocktails on the Beach were good too. The location works well for the beach and swimming in the sea. Two episodes of Death in paradise were filmed there. I'd recommend it.
