We paid 1€ each to use the toilets before walking down the gorge, but I’m still not sure what that covered. The seats were broken, everything was unbearably dirty, and there was no soap or towel for washing and drying our hands.

Maria and her family made us feel really welcome, and Maria was a wonderful host. It’s a handy place to stay for nearby walks, including the Samaria gorge. Pick up some local honey and olive oil while you’re there.

After a morning in Irini Gorge, this was a lovely spot to recover. The chicken and pork gyros were delicious, and so was the Greek salad.

Before setting off into the Agia Irini gorge, we stopped at Porofargo for a quick Greek coffee. Glad we did: the coffee was just right and the service was warm and friendly. A great stop before or after the gorge walk.

The food was bad, cards weren’t accepted, and they couldn’t or wouldn’t give us change, so we had to ask other hikers for some. They also charge $1 to use the bathroom. I’d avoid this place.
