The walk to the port wasn't much fun: it's about 20 minutes along a busy road with little or sometimes no pavement, so we took a taxi on the way back. There's no hotel transfer from the port. The location is only convenient for Alinda beach, and the area feels like a bit of a wasteland. I'd read lots of positive reviews, but our stay didn't match them. I asked for a studio with a balcony and sea view, but was told that the balcony rooms were "closed" because it was the last week of the season. I don't understand why an establishment would keep its best rooms unavailable instead of giving clients a better experience. The studio we got was dark and not great. There was no hot water at all on the first day, and the old, lumpy mattress was poor quality. All the balcony rooms were empty, and there were only one or two other guests in the whole place. It felt like a ghost town, so why did we get the worst room? Breakfast was a waste of time, with tasteless coffee and bread, and not even real butter. If the hotel can't give guests a good experience in the last week of the season, I don't see the point in staying open. I wish we'd stayed somewhere else.

The room was spotless, but the furniture and decor felt dated, and the hotel badly needs renovation. What bothered us most was the receptionist at checkout. We wanted her to call the maid so we could thank her and tip her directly for all the hard work she put into keeping everything clean. The receptionist refused and said the money had to be left with her, because tips are divided among the staff at the end of each month. That didn't seem fair to us. We often saw most of the staff sitting in the shade chatting, while the maids kept working in the heat. It felt like poor management. People who work hard should be rewarded for their own effort, and laziness shouldn't be encouraged.

I spent two days there during my trip to Leros. It was a perfect place, and I'd definitely recommend it.

The garden was lovely, and the rooms were clean. Those were the only real positives of my second trip to Leros, since my stay at Nefeli was disappointing. The breakfast was the worst part: poor quality and very little choice. Staff also seemed inexperienced and unprofessional. Sophia at reception came across as quite rude, and many employees appeared to spend much of their time doing nothing. There were several cats around the property, too, with nobody looking after them. Surely they could at least be given food and water. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and makes changes.

The staff were really friendly, and the studio was clean overall, though we did have ants in the kitchen. It was a nice little place with a small terrace. Breakfast had too little choice and wasn't very good. The hotel sits between two small villages, so getting to somewhere for food or drinks means walking a bit or renting transport.
