Hotel Calypso

The service was good, but the meal was really disappointing. We ordered Moussaka and similar dishes, and none tasted good. They were ready about five minutes after we ordered, so it seemed as if they’d just been put in an oven or microwave. Everything was bland and needed salt. The food was average in price, but this was the worst food I’ve had on Crete. They advertised souvlaki at the entrance, but when we sat down around 4 pm, the waiter said they wouldn’t serve it at that time of day and would only offer food that was quick to prepare.

We felt very welcome at this lovely family-run hotel and restaurant. The location is perfect, right by the beach and ferry. Our room was spacious, with a modern en-suite, and the restaurant served excellent fresh local food, along with great beer and local wine.

The staff made our stay in April especially good. Everyone was friendly, easy to talk to, and had great suggestions. We felt better taken care of here than anywhere else in Crete, and hope to come back soon. The rooms were just right, with lovely views of the Libyan Sea and mountains. The food was incredible, all freshly made with local ingredients.

The tzatziki was the best we had on the trip, and the eggplant salad was incredible too. Such a warm welcome, lots of smiles, and traditional greec music.
