Sonja Apartments

A lovely view and an affordable stay, with an apartment finished to a much higher standard than others I've seen on Crete. The road is noisy, and the large pool doesn't have much of a pool area. Cross the busy road and there's a nice beach for swimming and family time.

The street noise was the part I couldn't get past. The road runs right below the rooms and balcony, and traffic is heavy around the clock. At times it was hard to sleep, relax, or even sit outside, and I found it exhausting. Even at night it stayed very loud. If you're only using the villa to sleep and spending your days out locally, it may bother you less, but it would still be an issue overnight. I wouldn't stay here again for that reason. There are good things too: the balcony has an excellent sea view, the rooms were clean, and the kitchen had everything needed to prepare meals. Several restaurants are nearby, local beaches are about 100 feet across the street, and the road to Chania and its old town is direct and easy. The airport is 30 minutes away. This part of Crete felt more developed, with modern towns and Chania. For a quieter, cozier feel of Crete, I'd head south to somewhere like Plakias.

It’s a great place to rent, clean and equipped with everything you’d need during your stay. The one downside is the road in front of the balcony, which gets really busy during the day.

The Kalamaki restaurant and bar is excellent, and there are facilities right beside the villa. The beach is only 20 metres away. A fantastic place to stay.
