Villa Melolia

The view was lovely, the location peaceful and close to Corfu Town, and the upstairs bedroom was lovely too. But we had high expectations and the house, despite looking pretty outside, felt old and tired indoors. The TV was ancient, the downstairs room smelled bad, and the bathrooms were very basic. There were swarms of bees and hornets outside, even around the promising observation tower, where we were constantly attacked. The sun loungers were broken, and communication about fixing our problems wasn't great. No mosquito nets on doors or windows, which seems like a basic need in Greece. The listing photos on various sites were old and out of date, and the house needed much better cleaning. There were loads of cobwebs and nasty critters in the house. Covid rules aren't an excuse for falling short of basic cleaning standards.

The hosts were always reachable, kind, and ready to help with anything we needed. The villa was spotless, which we especially appreciated, and its beautiful decor made the place feel both luxurious and comfortable. The view was breathtaking at any time of day, perfect for relaxing. We had a great stay that exceeded our expectations, and we'd happily come back and recommend it.

We'd been looking forward to the villa, but it turned out to be a disaster. Cleanliness was poor throughout: cobwebs in the wardrobe and all over the outdoor pavilion, a dirty pool, and garden furniture so bad it couldn't be used. There are no mosquito nets on the windows, so insects get inside. The woman said she sprays a lot of insecticide, which left me wondering what that means for people's health and the environment. The kitchen is mostly for show, with no real storage apart from the island, and only three coffee spoons in all. At night, strange sounds from the fireplace and the downstairs bedroom alternated every 15 minutes and were really alarming. Nobody seemed to know what caused them. When we raised the cleaning problem, the lady said we only had to contact her and she would have come to clean. I expect a clean holiday home when I arrive. For anyone considering this house, stay away. It's guaranteed stress.
