A special place perched right on a cliff above the south Cretan sea in Chania prefecture. The atmosphere is friendly and simple, and the food is home cooked. There are only 3 rooms, but if you can book one, it’s well worth staying. You fall asleep to the sound of the waves.

This is our favorite taverna i Frangokastello. The Cretan salad was the best we’ve had anywhere since arriving in Crete. Food is extremely good, prices are very affordable, and service is impeccable. And the panorama? The pictures say it all.

You can order your meal and take a swim in the crystal clear water while it’s being prepared. The food is amazing, with plenty of local ingredients and classic Cretan flavors. The view is fantastic, and the owners are very friendly and polite.

The fish was fresh and grilled beautifully. It’s a traditional taverna with really good local food. They still bring you bread and a jug of water for free, which gave the place that old-time Greece feeling.

If you want to slow down, listen to the endless waves, soak up the Cretan sun, swim in the turquoise water below, and eat traditional Cretan food, this is the place. Mr. Thanasis is the heart of it all, and his wife and daughter Viky brighten the place with their smiles.
