The noise made it impossible to relax. Our rooms had little soundproofing, so we heard conversations, footsteps, doors slamming, traffic, and guests coming in late. Housekeeping also walked in without warning while we were still inside, leaving us with no privacy. The pools were always green, the food was always cold, and the hotel had a lot of damage. The service and management were terrible, with problems barely addressed. Instead of enjoying our holiday, we spent much of it waiting, complaining, and dealing with stress. Getting a room was a mess from the start. We were charged extra taxes and fees that hadn’t been mentioned, couldn’t get into our room, and made several trips to reception before waiting almost 20 minutes in the hallway with our luggage. They moved us, but later we found other people were still occupying that room. We were told the next room was for one night, but nobody could say for days when our original room would be ready. Staff promised to contact us and didn’t, so we had to keep chasing them. When we finally got our room, it smelled of sewage, the TV didn’t work, the shower had barely any pressure, and a loud ventilation system nearby ran from early morning until midnight. That evening the smell became unbearable, so we asked politely to move. We were told there were no rooms, and staff argued that we’d booked a “landscape view,” as if that made up for a sewer smell. After we kept pushing and said we wouldn’t sleep there, they suddenly found another room. We were moved again, this time into a tiny room by reception, without the view we’d paid for. We looked out over the hotel’s storage area, and it felt like a dump room. This was one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve had. Stay away.

The location is stunning, but the hotel didn’t live up to most of its promises. The photos and description suggested a modern 4 star boutique adults only retreat, while much of Gloria Maris felt old, worn, and disorganised. Some areas were an active construction site, and demolition hammers woke us at 8am without any warning. Our room had dirty surfaces and very old towels, and a cleaner came in despite the “Do Not Disturb” sign. Breakfast was repetitive and nowhere near 4 star quality, served in a dull room by staff who seemed unwelcoming or didn’t speak English. Service was indifferent overall, except for receptionist Zoe. The package also included a welcome bottle of wine and boat rental credit, but neither was provided in practice: no wine arrived, and there were no boats available to use the credit. We eventually got compensation, but only after raising the issue. The property needs major renovation and a complete rethink of its service standards.

The views and location are amazing, and the terraces, pool, outdoor spaces, and beach beds create a great atmosphere. Staff are really kind, and breakfast has lots of variety and good food. I found the quality for the price really good and would recommend the hotel. The hallways, reception, and other common areas could use a little refresh.

Right by the water, Gloria Maris is a great place for a special evening. The atmosphere is amazing, and the sea view goes well with the food and drinks. We tried traditional Greek dishes and fresh seafood, all full of flavor and cooked perfectly with what seemed like high-quality ingredients. The drinks were just as good, from refreshing cocktails to a nice wine selection. The bartender was friendly and skilled, making some unique cocktails.

I was blown away by the food. From breakfast through dinner, every meal was fresh, rich in flavor, and prepared so well it felt like eating at a five-star restaurant. The drinks were just as impressive, with lots of cocktails, wines, and local specialties, all expertly made and beautifully presented.
