Hotel Megara

The breakfast was fresh and tasty, with plenty of choice for a two-star hotel. We also enjoyed the homemade meals you can order for lunch or dinner, like Greek salad or Greek pizza for 5 EUR each. The staff are really friendly, and the place has a homely feel. Our apartment was roomy, clean and had the basic kitchen utensils; towels were replaced and cleaning was done daily. The only snag was the small shower, which leaked. We didn't need air conditioning in September. Megara is tucked away somewhere peaceful, but still close to Laganas' attractions. Its own beach is small and not especially appealing, though Kalamaki's wide, sandy, and fairly empty beach is about 2 km away, and the little private beach on Cameo island is around 1 km away. For what you pay for two stars, it feels like you get three or more.

The location worked well for us: Laganas centre was under a ten-minute walk away, and the beach about five minutes. The pool area was lovely and never too crowded. From our balcony the views were stunning. I stayed with my wife and granddaughter. Our room was clean, bright, nicely decorated and well equipped for self-catering in Greece. The proprietors were very helpful and seemed happy to sort out anything we needed. Breakfast was included and excellent; the food served through the day and evening was also excellent and reasonably priced. There wasn't a huge selection, but a sign invited guests to ask for something off-menu and they would try their best. We had a really enjoyable stay. I'd chosen the hotel after reading the reviews on “Trip Advisor,” and it lived up to them. If we return to Laganas, we'd stay here again. For a warm welcome, easy beach access, and a spot away from the noisy centre while still close enough to visit, I'd recommend it.

The people here are genuinely lovely and do what they can to help, from arranging rental cars to sharing ideas and tips for getting the most out of Zakinthos. The hotel is well placed, about a 10-15 minute walk from Laganas beach and Cameo island. It's far enough from the "main drag" to stay quiet and peaceful. There's also free parking, which is handy since you'll need a vehicle to explore zakinthos. Great value, friendly people, and breakfast included too. Highly recommended if you're planning to see the island.

The sea view from my room was breathtaking, and the food was great. This isn't a five-star hotel, but it has a clean, safe atmosphere and all the facilities you might need. The staff are friendly and helpful, and they do whatever they can to make your stay pleasant. Of all the hotels I've been to, this is the best with its humble offerings. I'll definitely recommend it to friends and family, and I plan to come back soon.
