Elpida Hotel

The pools were lovely, especially the kids' pool, which was a good size and only 60 cm deep, with plenty of sunbeds around it. The main pool was spacious too, and the bridge shaded about two metres of it from around 4 o’clock. That was a godsend for my son, who burns easily, as he could play and relax without worrying about being in the sun too long. Elpida has been closed for a while and is trying to get back on its feet, so don’t judge it by how the front looks. The rooms are basic but have what you need, with decent-sized balconies, and they were nice and clean. The staff work hard at that, changing the bedding and towels every three days. The location was fantastic. It’s outside the busy centre, but only a 5-10 minute walk to the left gets you there, with lots of amazing restaurants. The beach is nearby too, and it was one of the nicest we’ve ever been to. There’s a shop and snack bar next door, so it’s easy to pick up what you need. We recently got back and had a great time. We were four in the family, three adults and one teenager, and all of us loved our two-week stay. The pool was a lovely size and never too busy. Our room had the basics, including a fridge, toaster and hob, and it was clean. Bedding and towels were changed often, and the cleaner came in daily to empty the bins. The shop and bar were closed while we were there, but that wasn’t a problem. A lovely couple run a shop a few doors down, and bars and restaurants are within walking distance. I hope we can go back soon.

Stay away. The room was dirty, with stains on the wall, a broken air conditioner, a poor shower and a bathroom that smelled of sewage. The manager first said he would refund the rest of our holiday and told us to go through the company we booked with. He then changed his position and became aggressive. We filmed him, but he said filming was illegal in Greece, so we deleted it straight away in front of him. He then threatened to call the police. We complained to the booking company again. The manager accused us of damaging his property, though we have video evidence that we didn’t, and used that as his reason to end our stay and refuse a refund. He is also trying to charge us another 900 euros for damage. We plan to report assault, theft and fraud. This man and his hotel have a bad reputation. Allegedly, he has done this to other guests, making false allegations so he can end their stay and make it hard for them to leave a review. He was aggressive and a bully. I only gave one star because I couldn’t post without one, and minus five wasn’t an option.

The room had spiderwebs in several places, the bathroom was very dirty, and the taps were caked in limescale and grime. The sheets and towels were dirty too, and we had to ask several times for clean ones. The air conditioning and fridge weren’t on when we arrived. When we told the manager, he came to look and found the fridge unplugged and the air conditioner fuse switched off. He said the previous guests had done it and called them weirdos. A mouse got into our room because the cleaners had left the doors open while cleaning. When we reported that and other problems, the service changed completely. The manager called us liars and became very aggressive. After we argued with the owners about the hotel conditions, our room stopped being cleaned. They didn’t even bring toilet paper, and when we tried to tell the cleaner, she ran away. The whole staff were rude after that. The customer service was poor and rude.
