Caldera Blue

Meh.

The view is incredible, but for 95 euros in June, the stay felt unacceptable. We had trouble finding reception, the balcony windows were broken, and water leaked from beneath the sink. There was a bucket, and the wall below the AC was black. Breakfast wasn't included either. The alternative was juice, butter from the fridge, honey and jam, individually wrapped toast portions, croissants, coffee, and tea. It felt tragic, with hardly any care for a price that doesn't match the service. It’s sad when someone seems to think they have a monopoly. I simply won’t set foot in Alyki again.

The apartment was spotless inside, right down to the details, and the owner greeted us warmly and explained the house and the area. It's on a hill, so the view over the surroundings is lovely and the place feels quiet and calming. We liked the layout too, especially the downstairs bedroom with its double bed. There’s a toilet and AC on each floor, plus a little kitchen stocked with what you need, a Nespresso machine and capsules, pots, and a small but sufficient fridge. Upstairs there’s a lovely sofa. The one drawback is the strong morning sun on the balcony, which makes it hard to sit outside, though the afternoon is better.

The owner was kind and helpful, and the balcony views are wonderful, especially from the front apartments. It’s a very quiet spot between Aliki and Agios Nikolaos, close enough to walk to the sea. The area really is a haven. The apartments are clean, fairly well maintained, and practical for a few relaxing days, though the balcony doors have no screens, so insects can be an issue. Sitting out in the morning is also impossible in the sun, and an awning or other shade would help.
