We booked two weeks at this family-run hotel in Karpathos through a tour operator back in February, including a paid upgrade to a sea-view room. The rate was noticeably above what 4-star hotels nearby usually cost, so we expected more. We left feeling the stay missed even the basics, and regretted not returning to a nearby hotel we'd enjoyed before. It had one fewer star but much better comfort, service, and attention to detail. The same tour operator manages both places, which made the difference harder to understand. For this price, there are much better choices in Karpathos, including within the same travel group. The setting looks beautiful and dramatic from outside, but the position and layout mean most balconies don't really let you enjoy the scenery. We were first put in a room over the kitchens after a cold, disorganized welcome. It was noisy, very hot, and smelled of cooking. When we asked to move the next day, there was just one room offered. We later learned it was the hotel's usual backup room, rather than a real upgrade. It had a better view, but sat above a broad concrete roof that soaked up the sun and radiated heat all day. The room stayed extremely hot despite the air conditioning, whose unit was right above the bed and blew cold air on us overnight. The room was poorly equipped, with no wardrobe drawers, and the minibar only added more heat. Some glasses were dirty and crusted, and there wasn't even a complimentary bottle of water on arrival. The bathroom door was broken, cleanliness overall was lacking, and the balcony's two iron chairs were so uncomfortable we couldn't enjoy even a quick aperitif there. Breakfast was disappointing too, with little variety, poor quality, and often not enough food. The lobby bar charged extra for anything beyond the bare-bones breakfast buffet. Even the few loungers and umbrellas on the small beach below the hotel had to be rented.

The pool is pleasant and the nearby beach is a plus. Staff were generally friendly, though they could be slow to sort out problems. We had booked a full sea view but were given a room with only a partial one, and the views differ a lot depending on where your room is. The breakfast was decent but nowhere near a high standard, with grainy scrambled eggs every time, and the restaurant and breakfast space had no air conditioning. Our room was in poor condition: the shower head and faucet were broken, the TV sat high in a corner and tilted upward, the fridge shelf didn't fit, and the chair was broken. Wi-Fi coverage was patchy too. The hotel is nice, but these things don't add up to a 4-star stay. If you get a better room than we did, I'd still recommend it.

They were flexible and set us up with both a baby bed and chair for our stay. There's a beach just below the hotel, and you can order lunch from the hotel there whenever it suits you. We loved the view, food, location, and employees who were so ready to help. We ate at the restaurant several times and, to me, it's easily the best in the Amoopi area.

The food deserves a mention: delicious, carefully prepared, and always with a little something extra. We enjoyed a generous Greek meal every day, and the chef was so kind, always finding something for me as a vegan. The bartender makes good drinks too. We had a lovely stay, with clean rooms, a nice pool, a beautiful view and beach, and warm hospitality from the staff.

Simply amazing. The service was great, and the rooms had air conditioning and felt nice and cozy. There's a car rental place quite close by. One fun thing is that you can get a little fitness in on the way back to your room after a meal :)
