Cozy Cycladic Beach House - Persefoni

Our August 2019 trip to Astypalaia in the Dodecanese was unforgettable, and staying at Maltezana Hotel made it especially lovely. There were 9 of us, all Italian girlfriends. The place has a modern, spacious feel with a Mediterranean touch. Rooms are bright and large, with lots of windows, air conditioning, and either a generous balcony or a private garden area on the ground floor. Palm trees, bougainvilleas, flowers, and clear blue sky surround you. The pool is beautiful, with a bar serving extraordinary mojitos and gin and tonics. We ate in the "Au déhors" dining room overlooking the garden and pool. The hotel's beach is only a few metres away, with sunbeds and umbrellas. Just grab a pareo from your room and you're there in two minutes. You can order lunch or an aperitif from your sunbed, and Gregoria brings treats from the Maltezana bar or kitchen. She's kind, smiling, and knows her work. The whole service team is great. The calm and quiet, gentle mostly Greek guests, and general sense of tranquility were very welcome. Some lucky Italians return year after year. Breakfast is plentiful and varied, and both lunch and dinner are available à la carte, to our great satisfaction. The cuisine is Greek and local. An experienced cook works in the kitchen alongside the family's "super mom" who runs the hotel. The professionalism, kindness, helpfulness, care, patience, and good humour of everyone in this great Greck family made our stay especially pleasant. Many thanks to all of them. A nice place to stop for a drink. The drinks are well prepared, and the friendly staff can give you ideas for things to do on the island.

It's a friendly family hotel, quiet and right by the beach. The surroundings are pleasant and clean, the rooms are spacious and clean too. They're a little old-fashioned, but not enough to complain about. There's a nice restaurant with a good selection of à la carte dishes. The owners are kind, welcoming, and always willing to help with useful information. They greet you with a smile and make for easy conversation. The swimming pool is clean and good for children. The beach in front is clean, lovely, and peaceful. The hotel also offers water sports supervised by a trained person. It's a very good choice for couples and older people as well. I loved it and would certainly visit again.

A peaceful spot to unwind, and the island’s best beaches are close by. Good value for the money.
