Anemomylos-Windmill

Waking up to a breeze and a window looking out over the sea from inside a windmill was so charming. The property is peaceful, with lovely views of the sea and the town below, and we really enjoyed taking it easy there. Mary and Madgalina welcomed us, showed us around, and sat down with maps and recommendations. They even helped arrange a rental car that was brought right up to the windmill. The fridge was stocked with wine, water, juice, coffee, milk, local cheeses and meats, tomatoes, melon, oranges, jam, honey, pastries and bread. We made breakfast and packed a small lunch for the beach. In the evenings we wandered around Ano syros for drinks and a good dinner. This was a unique, happy part of our two-week trip, and Syros felt like a great island for experiencing local life.

Mary pretty much saved our trip. This was a last-minute suggestion, and it turned out far better than we expected. The windmill’s charm and thoughtful renovation were a big surprise, and while the space is small, that’s part of what makes it special. I’d never pictured staying somewhere like this, and I’m so glad we did. We were looking for a genuine local experience instead of one of the usual tourist islands, and this was exactly the kind of find we hoped for. Mary went out of her way to make the trip memorable for the four of us. If you want somewhere peaceful within walking distance of a local cafe, Cafe o Vornas, this windmill is well worth considering.

Mary made us feel at home from the moment we arrived and looked after us with such warmth throughout the stay. The windmill itself is beautiful and cozy, but also practical, with a great layout, a lovely atmosphere, a view, and all the facilities we needed. It worked really well for our group of friends, and seems suited to couples, families, or solo travelers too. A really distinctive stay. We’ll definitely come back.

Breakfast in the yard, looking out at the windmill and St. George's cathedral, was our favorite part. The windmill-house feels like stepping back in time, while still having traditional comforts and a touch of luxury. It was very clean, tidy, and fully equipped. The location made it easy to get to Ano Syros and take in the view of Ermoupolis and its emblematic Churches. Mrs Mary welcomed us warmly and gave us helpful information for exploring the island. One of the most unusual places we’ve stayed in Cyclades, and we’d happily stay again.
