Troullos Traditional Houses

Archanes is a lovely little village, with narrow streets and hardly any tourists. We had delicious, very local late dinners in the small square, and there was live music over the weekend. Athena was a wonderful host. She made our stay at Troullos feel like visiting good friends from the start. Be sure to order her excellent, plentiful breakfast. The apartment was spacious, spotlessly clean and very comfortable, and the yard and terraces had shade and comfort at every time of day. Finding parking with Google was challenging, especially with the narrow streets, so a small car is a good idea. We ended up leaving the car in a random spot and walking to the house. Athena came with us to the car and showed us the way. After that it was easy to find again, and we were glad we’d rented a small car.

It’s an old property, so expect lots of steps and a small bathroom. We knew that beforehand, so it was absolutely fine. There’s private parking, and the restaurants are within walking distance. Athena is a wonderful host who makes everything possible. We stayed two nights in this lovely traditional house in the heart of Archanes and had a wonderful time. A nice place to experience Crete and its hospitality.

After seven nights, we’re sure we’ll return for Athina, the cozy place, the people we met at the lovely family restaurants and shops, and Archanes’ beautiful little streets. The room was unique, very cozy and chic, decorated in a traditional style. The place felt like a piece of heaven in the heart of the village. Athina was like a big sister, warm and full of energy, a great cook and also a very good designer and organizer. She made us feel at home.

We stayed for two hot nights in June and would have extended our stay if they hadn’t been fully booked. It was perfect for relaxing. The lady was authentic and kind, and welcomed us with wonderful lemonade from her trees. The apartments were practical, clean and fully equipped. Breakfast had sweet and savoury options, special coffee and orange juice. We’re very demanding about quality, peace and aesthetics, and we loved this hidden gem.
