Apollon Palace

The rooms are very clean, the staff attentive, and the food is good in this small but chic hotel. The big letdown is breakfast. For all 8 days, it was the same very basic spread: cottage cheese, ham, eggs, diced tomatoes and cheese. The bathrooms are also tiny, and when the fan comes on it sounds like a plane taking off. Apart from that, it’s just good.

The room was a good size and incredibly cheap, and the pool looked inviting. There were lots of delicious drinks at the bar beside it. Everyone was helpful and accommodating when we arrived very late. We were hungry after the trip, so they even opened the kitchen for us at midnight. The next day they helped call a taxi.

The pool was a lovely place to relax, with comfortable loungers, parasols and fresh towels always ready. I also really liked the breakfast: it had what you need and a little more, without being overwhelming. The hotel and room were spotless, and the bar stayed open with light meals, cocktails and hot or cold drinks. It’s about 10 minutes from the airport and handy for driving around the island. Georgia, the Reception and Bar Manager, looked after things in the afternoons and evenings, while Christina, the Housekeeping manager, and their teams made the hotel feel like a cozy Kefalonia home. I’d highly recommend it.

The bathroom was our one real gripe. It was tiny, the door was hard to close, and the toilet paper sat over the wc. Otherwise, we felt very well cared for. The two sisters who run the hotel handled everything, from check-in and cleaning to breakfast and tips on what to see. They gave us useful information about beaches and sights, and even quickly ordered a taxi when our tour operator let us down on the last day. Our room was spotless, breakfast was very nice, and the location in Metaxata was ideal for gorgeous beaches and delicious restaurants.
