Galaxy Hotel

The beds weren’t comfortable, but they gave us mattress toppers and that helped. Breakfast was simple but good, and the quiet pool had plenty of drinks. The staff were so friendly and happy to help with anything. It’s about a 35-minute walk to argostoli, so you might want a taxi or a hire car. Definitely recommend it if you’re heading to kefalonia xx

The location was the only thing we liked. We’d booked 11 nights at Hotel Galaxy but left after just one because the place was such a disappointment. I knew it would be basic, having stayed in plenty of basic places in Greece, but I wasn’t prepared for how tired and dirty the hotel and rooms were. Our room was 220, at the back. There was nowhere to put our things, just two small metal bedside tables, so we had to bring the balcony table inside for extra space. The tabletop fridge was on the floor, rusty, and still had brown liquid in it that smelled. There were clumps of hair on the floor and balcony. The air conditioner dripped onto the dressing table and down the wooden doors, leaving stains. It should have been draining outside the room. We knew there wasn’t a kettle listed when we booked, but the room opposite had a worktop, kettle, cups, spoons and a full-size under-counter fridge. When we asked, staff brought us a silicone camping kettle on a tray that hadn’t been wiped, with no cups or spoons. Breakfast was another letdown. The cloth under the glass buffet top clearly hadn’t been washed, and when I asked the woman serving for ketchup, she was abrupt and nearly bit my head off. At breakfast, another guest was grabbing handfuls of food with bare hands and putting it in a bag on the seat beside her, despite serving tongs being available. There was more I could say. This is a very worn-out hotel that badly needs renovating.

The location worked really well, with Argostoli easy to reach, little beaches nearby, and a central base for exploring the island. Breakfast was amazing. There weren’t many amenities, and there was no soap or shampoo. The bathroom also wasn’t very clean, with hair from previous guests along the shower wall and on the mirror.

The room was clean, which was the one thing I liked. The courtyard and reception seemed well cared for, but the rooms were a complete contrast. The doors are very old and need a hard kick to shut. The shower has no screen to stop water splashing, and the toilet was in terrible condition. The room really needs renovation. There’s a balcony, but a low divider means your neighbors can sit right beside you. It was unbearable. Poor value for the money, and I wouldn’t stay longer than one night.
