Barbara Museum Hotel

A pleasant place to stay.

The bathroom phone didn't work, so taking a bath took at least 20 minutes, and the water itself took 15 minutes to warm up. There were dried silicone marks on the bathroom wall too, though that was the least of it. The curtain was dirty, and the fridge smelled of mold. Inside, it looked like little Teresa's whole family had died there. The creepy dolls on the hotel's ground floor made House of Wax look tame. We were afraid to step on the baby wipes covering the floor. They got blacker and blacker until we checked out. It wasn't worth €50 a night.

We were in Volos for our friend's wedding and booked 8 out of 10 rooms. After seeing the reviews, our bride called and assured us the bad ones were malicious and that the place would be spotless. That wasn't what we found. The whole building seemed left to itself: dusty rooms, filthy toilets, dirty floors that looked as if they hadn't been swept or mopped in over a year, and smelly refrigerators. Hot water took a long time, and some shower heads barely drained because of the salts. The woman running the business kept insisting everything was clean. When my father found a cockroach in his room and showed her, she told him it was stinky. She generally tried to make us feel as if we were imagining things. This gets one star only because there's no lower rating.

I only stayed because I couldn't find anywhere else. The place wasn't worth 5 euros, and it's the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. In July there was a Christmas tree in the room. The soundproofing was nonexistent, so we heard everything from the neighbors. The mattress seemed as old as the hotel, the floor was sandy and covered in hair, and the black towels looked heavily reused, maybe for a decade. The decor was tasteless, with none of the bamboo pieces mentioned, just a bed, mirror, bedside tables, and so on. The room smelled so bad as soon as I walked in that it made me dizzy. The entrance was blocked by a fence and flower pots, with a pitbull behind them and no warning to watch out. Inside, there was a stench like a nursing home, plus cats on the chairs and food plates everywhere. My booking said 42, but the lady asked for 50 and didn't mention breakfast. People leaving good reviews must have no sense of sight or smell.
