Candia Hotel

The location is great, right beside the metro station, not far from the acropolis, and very quiet. The staff were friendly, and the atmosphere was great. Our room was good, with excellent hot water, and I really liked having a handheld shower beside the toilet. George the receptionist, Long hair George, was amazing and even helped us arrange a ride during a taxi strike. Breakfast had a decent variety. The rooftop snack bar was closed, which was a shame, though it was too cold to spend time up there anyway. Highly recommend it.

The room had been completely renovated and was spotless, and I enjoyed having a balcony where I could sit with a book. The pool was small, but the bar area was relaxed. Breakfast was my favorite part. The selection was standard, but they put real effort into it, even the egg was well made. Staff were super nice. The hotel is right by the suburban train and metro. From outside it didn’t look very good, and the first impression wasn’t great. The lobby was on a side street and could use more light, and the elevator worked but was clearly outdated. They were still renovating the third floor, though work only started around 11. It was inconvenient for me on the day I didn’t want to spend outside. I booked through booking and was surprised when I checked the overall star rating on Google Maps. Well deserved four-star hotel.

The rooftop terrace and bar were the best part, with a small pool and a stunning view over the Acropolis. Breakfast was simple and tasty, with hot and cold dishes and some lovely traditional sweets. The hotel has clean, newly refurbished rooms, though some are still waiting for renovation. The area is well placed for a city break, within walking distance of the center and a short, inexpensive taxi ride away. The surrounding neighborhood feels a bit rough and very local, but staying closer to the main street feels much safer. Well recommended for a city break.

Good food and groceries are within five minutes, and the main Athens attractions are about a 20-minute walk away. The breakfast was decent and the front desk staff were helpful. The hotel itself feels dated, with poor-quality fittings in the rooms. We were on the sixth floor and could still hear traffic through the thin window glass. The toilets, walls, and beds could all be improved.
