Casual Kubic Athens Hotel by Casual Hoteles

I booked at the last minute and started regretting it after reading the comments, but I'm glad I didn't let them put me off. The hotel is in a perfectly fine part of the city, very close to the main attractions, and I felt safe walking to and from it. The staff were nice and got us checked in early. If bed bugs worry you, check the mattress and bedding before unpacking, as you should at any hotel. Everything was fine for me. An inexpensive stay in a great location, 10/10.

The hotel's four-star claim doesn't convince me. I'd rate it two stars. It advertises a welcome drink, but we got none, just one bottle of water in the room for the two of us. It also mentions restaurants and bars, though there isn't a bar. A kiosk just outside sells alcohol, cigarettes, and snacks. Across from the kubic is a seating area full of junkies and drunks; graffiti is everywhere and makes the place look messy. The city itself is very busy and dusty. We booked an excursion through the kubic. The brochure said it started at 08:15hrs, so we were downstairs having breakfast and waiting for pickup from 7am. Afterwards, the receptionist said she'd called our room twice, but we hadn't heard any calls. She seemed a bit snotty and said the coach had left at 07:30hrs for the pickup point, as her colleague had told us. My husband and I both said nobody had mentioned a 07:30hrs pickup. We got our 60 euros deposit back and took an Uber to the Acropolis, which cost much less than the 160 euro excursion for both of us. Four nights is enough to see the city. The history and food are amazing, but the hotel staff didn't seem to care and their uniforms looked shabby. I wouldn't return even if it were free.

The location is okay, though not the best, with the city center, market, and other important places about 15-20 minutes away. The rooms were clean, spacious for two, and amazing, and I liked the stay. Service was good. It's now part of Casual Hotels. Recommended!

The room is quite dark, which could be an issue. Its controls are all on a tablet, and that can get confusing or disconnect sometimes, though it isn't a major problem. The hotel makes good use of an older building, and it's a very good place overall. The central Athens area has some difficult streets nearby, but it's manageable.
