City Circus Athens - Hostel

The staff were wonderful, so helpful and welcoming. My private room was clean, with air conditioning and a comfortable bed. My driver from the airport also said it was a nice area. I'm 33 now and usually leave hostels to younger travelers, but I booked here because the location and price are hard to beat, and I'm glad I did. The Acropolis is a 15-minute walk, and there's cold filtered water in the kitchen. I'd recommend it.

The little kitchen is adorable, and everything is labeled, which made it really easy to use. They also kept us informed about the local protests and what that meant for transportation. Laundry is available for a small fee, and I believe they can arrange airport transport and hold your bags until your flight. City Circus was a cozy, cute place in a great part of Athens. The rooms were clean and pleasant, and the atmosphere felt calm. You can hear a noisy neighbor, so bring earplugs if that might keep you up. Still, it was a peaceful place to rest, and I was impressed by the facilities. 10/10 recommend!

I expected to enjoy a 4 to 5 day stay at City Circus Hotel, but the staff didn't keep the promises they made. My son's wife was due to arrive at 4am, and they wouldn't allow an early check-in at 6AM, even for an extra fee. The night manager wanted full payment for the six hours from 5AM to 11AM. Later, Myrtle, the day manager, abruptly and rudely told me to leave within 15 minutes because a group of 60 was supposedly arriving at 2pm. By 3pm, no large group had shown up. I was disappointed by the service and broken promises, and had to change my plans and find somewhere else in a hurry. I can't recommend City Circus Hostel to friends or family, and I won't return. 1225/2025 UPDATE ABOUT THE INACCURATE CLAIMS FROM "MANAGEMENT", WHO SEEM TO HAVE BEEN MISINFORMED BY STAFF OR ARE TRYING TO COLLIDE WITH THEM TO DISTORT AND HIDE THE FACTS: 1] NO! I WAS NOT IN A "FEMALE ONLY" ROOM. I WAS ASSIGNED TO A MALE DORMITORY. NICE TRY, GUYS. 2] I NEVER REFUSED TO LEAVE. After being rudely told the room was "PRE-BOOKED" by the huge group, I gathered my things and tried to go. She interrupted me every 3-5 minutes because I wasn't moving fast enough for her. Another half-truth! 3] PLEASE DON'T INSULT MY INTELLIGENCE BY BLAMING ME FOR YOUR STAFF'S POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. MORE DISHONEST CLAIMS. THANK YOU! RICHARD

The front desk staff were lovely, and the building really is pretty. The common areas look great and are a nice place to meet people. But if you don't care about socializing or the aesthetics, the price may not make sense when a private hotel room can cost the same. Noise can also be rough, depending on your room. The hostel could use bed curtains, working bedside chargers and AC, shampoo and conditioner, and storage that locks. My bunkmate kept their phone light on all night, so curtains would have helped. I also wish they'd screened guests' health better. One woman in our six-person room coughed every 1-2 minutes from midnight to 4am. My friend and I got sick a few days later, which was a real bummer on vacation.
