Errathens Apartments

We were moved out of our original apartment two weeks before our contract ended, and ERRATHENS said the landlord needed major changes done. They promised a list of summer apartments, but as the end of June approached, there was no clear information. I had to chase them to find out where I'd be staying. They first mentioned the Student Residence without saying what it would cost, then moved me elsewhere because my stay was longer. The checkout email said the apartment was reserved for summer guests and cleaners had to prepare it, so I don't believe the renovations explanation. I know other tenants who got the same email. The replacement apartment for July was in terrible shape. The shower and bathtub had brown stains, but when I complained they said it was the bathtub paint. The washing machine drained into the shower, so you couldn't shower while washing clothes without dirty water coming out, and that was also what made the tub dirty. Most of their apartments don't have a shared living room, which makes it hard to socialize with housemates you get along with. There were money issues from the start. They required a deposit worth one month's rent, then told us at the office that sheets, towels, and cleaning cost extra, and said those fees could come out of the deposit. They hadn't said the cleaning was mandatory beforehand. I left my room in perfect condition, paid €430 deposit, and got only €260 back. They also insisted on cash for rent unless I pushed to pay by bank transfer. They take ages to reply, and because they keep the keys they can enter whenever they want. Once the cleaning lady opened my bedroom door while I was there with my boyfriend, even though I'd knocked back and told her not to come in. She's only supposed to clean the common areas. I don't recommend this rental company, even for a holiday.

The agency kept entering the flat with their own keys, without knocking or ringing. Near the end of my stay, they came to look at repairs in my flatmate's empty room. The next day I found them inside again, removing the bathroom ceiling paint. I was furious that nobody had told me. At the office, they blamed me for not opening the window when showering. They said the cleaning lady took weekly photos and that the mold had got worse each week. The repair work happened during my last three days, left dust everywhere, smelled of paint, and they didn't clean up afterward. They also don't ask for your bank details for the deposit, so you have to write to get it back. The flat itself was decent, though there was some mold and it was completely dark. That wasn't the agency's fault. When I arrived, they told me I had to pay for sheets and a cleaning lady, with the cost taken from the deposit. The cleaning was mandatory, and it felt like a way for the agency to monitor tenants. The sheets were dirty and almost transparent from being washed so many times. Run from this agency. With people coming in without asking, I never felt they respected my space or privacy.

I spent four months in Omonia as an Erasmus student. The room was fairly okay, but the bathroom wasn't in great shape, and they never fixed the toilet even after I reported it several times. The company seemed fine when I first found them online and paid a one-month-rent deposit. Once I arrived, though, they asked me to sign documents and started charging extra fees for things like sheets, towels, and a cleaning lady, even though they advertise uniform accommodation prices. The cleaner did actually clean. At the end, my deposit didn't arrive by the agreed date. They only sent it after I contacted them, later than the contract said, and I got less than half back. Their excuses were more charges for linen, towels, bank fees, and a special cleaning of my supposedly dirty room. When I asked again about a refund, they stopped replying. It's not especially cheap, and I couldn't trust them. My Erasmus colleagues found nicer places for much less, where I spent more time. I wouldn't recommend this company for a stay in Athens. My roommates and I paid the deposit the agency asked for, but after our stay they kept €100 from each of us without a valid or legal explanation. We also had to repeatedly ask them not to enter our home with their own keys. Compared with other agencies or private landlords, it costs more and the flat's quality doesn't match the price. They're friendly at first, but I felt they were after our money and wouldn't honour the contract they made us sign. I wouldn't recommend them, especially to Erasmus students planning to live in Athens. I'm still having a horrible experience with them and hope they lose customers.
