Hotel Katerina

Breakfast was better than we expected, with eggs cooked several ways, bacon, sausages, toast, cheese, fruit, and more. The rooms were clean and ready, and the desk staff were super helpful and friendly. It’s comfortable and good value, especially with breakfast included. The area behind the hotel has unfortunately become run down and is frequented by marginalized people. Ask the desk for directions and advice on avoiding the rough spots.

The cleaning was very good, but the cleaner kept opening the door in the morning and waking me, even though checkout was at noon. The mattress was terribly hard, and the hotel is beside a busy main road with traffic noise around the clock. There are also lots of drug addicts nearby; I wouldn’t walk to the city, even during the day, and would use the metro. On departure day, reception called at 11:30 and kept asking “how are you” without explaining anything else. It seemed like they wanted me to leave. When I asked at checkout why they called, they apologized, but the whole thing left me with a strange feeling. I didn’t feel welcome.

The free parking was a real bonus for anyone arriving by car, and getting around was easy with Metaxourgeio Metro Station nearby. Hotel Katerina gave me excellent value for money in Athens. My room was spotless, with comfortable bedding and modern amenities, and the complimentary breakfast had lots of tasty choices to start the day. The staff were exceptionally friendly and always ready to help with questions. I’d highly recommend it.

The location isn’t ideal for families, though it works fine if you’re taking taxis. The beds weren’t comfortable, and the elevator was an issue. On the plus side, the interior was nice, the staff were friendly, and breakfast was good. It’s near the big square and not far from the city center.
