Hotel @ Syngrou Fix

The staff were warm and helpful, and as a Black solo traveler I felt welcomed and well treated. It’s a safe area with plenty within walking distance, especially if you explore the streets behind the hotel as well as the main road. There are also nearby sights and a train station. Breakfast was pleasant and filling, though there weren’t many hot choices. The windows kept out the main road noise, but I could still hear cars passing, and room 303’s balcony looks toward a building site. The door doesn’t block hallway sounds. Both single bed mattresses were very hard, which is why the room gets four stars. If they were softer, I’d absolutely come back.

I spent seven nights here for the Athens marathon, and the hotel was right by pickup point 1 and Syngrou Fix metro station. It’s in Koukaki, a safe, lovely area, with Drakou alley’s tasty local restaurants nearby and the Acropolis and Plaka within walking distance. My room was modern, clean, and comfortable, with strong Wi-Fi, cool air conditioning, a fridge, a bidet, and a balcony. The buffet breakfast was among the best I’ve had, especially the Mediterranean food and daily Greek yogurt. The staff were friendly too. Highly recommended!

When our ferry was cancelled, the staff were so friendly and helped us out with great suggestions for nearby places. Service was excellent throughout. The hotel is good value for its location. We could walk to the Acropolis, and the surrounding backstreets had wonderful traditional restaurants. The rooms were very good, and breakfast was great too.

We spent around $1000 USD for this stay, and it was a miserable experience. The breakfast was stale and not fresh. Once we complained after the first day, we were told we couldn’t cancel it because it was bundled with the stay. Staff didn’t replenish things, so when an item ran out, that was it. The bathroom had no ventilation, the tub leaked all over the floor, and it wasn’t cleaned daily. Room service just made the bed. The walls are so thin that we could hear the neighbors, and loud guests kept waking us after midnight. Wi-Fi was too slow to work, so we had to rely on our own hotspot, which was a disaster on a business trip. There’s only one iron for the whole building, and we had to ask reception for it each time. Worst of all, we left with bedbug bites all over our bodies. We’re undergoing treatment now and are afraid we may have brought them home. I consider that dangerous to guests’ health. Management clearly doesn’t care about hygiene, guests, or basic hospitality. I’d give zero stars if I could. Save your money and stress, and stay somewhere else.
