Hotel Thissio

The view from our balcony of the Acropolis was just wow, and staying at Thissio View worked especially well for a first trip to Athens. It’s a short walk to the nearest metro and not much farther to most of the sights I wanted to see. We enjoyed winding down on the balcony overlooking Apostolou Pavlou. The staff made us feel welcome, anticipated most of our needs, and picked up on our habits, one of the nice things about a boutique hotel. Breakfast was included and much better than a basic buffet. We ordered from a short menu with enough options, and the food was delicious. The property was immaculately clean, even though some fixtures were damaged. A few things could be better. The rooftop restaurant was fine, but nothing about the meal made us want to return, especially with so many nearby choices. The cafe seating across the street was unpredictable: once it wasn’t operating, and another time we could get a drink but were told the kitchen only served snacks. Neither was a dealbreaker, just odd. I also wasn’t keen on the bathroom setup. The jetted tub was nice, but the handheld spray nozzle wasn’t a substitute for a proper shower, and without a curtain it was easy to splash water across the bathroom. The listing should also say that the property isn’t handicapped accessible. Balcony lighting was another issue. It was bright while staff were on duty, then completely off when they went home, with no way for guests to adjust it. That took away from the atmosphere and the view. I’d probably stay again. If the bathroom and balcony lighting were sorted out, I’d return without hesitation.
