King George, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Athens

We were near the end of our trip and pretty worn out, so we didn’t manage to enjoy the amenities or explore as much as we’d hoped. Still, the King George was a lovely place to rest and finish our time away, and we’d like to come back with more time. The architecture is beautiful, with a glamorous, classic European feel that makes the hotel feel special. Our room was on the small side, but comfortable enough for a good night’s sleep. Breakfast was a treat, especially seeing the Parthenon while we ate.

The staff were attentive, helpful, and always available, and the gym was small with only the basics, but empty when I used it, so I enjoyed it. The room was just okay for the price. Our classic double felt old, the shower wasn’t good, and its window faced the indoor hall and other rooms, with no sunlight, so it was hard to tell day from night. Breakfast was included but only fine, and too overpriced to feel worthwhile. We could use the SPA/indoor pool at the GB, but I hadn’t known before the flight, so I didn’t bring a swimsuit or check it out. It was quite expensive for the room we had, and I wouldn’t return.

Breakfast at Tudor Hall was something I looked forward to every morning, it was great. The hotel is also centrally located in Athens, and the front desk found us excellent restaurants and even arranged reservations. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Our room was nicely laid out and had the amenities we needed, including an iron and ironing board. One thing to bear in mind: our tub had a shower wand attached to the wall, so stepping over the side could be difficult or worrying for someone with mobility concerns. We had a great stay at the King George, and I’d recommend it to anyone visiting.

Breakfast on the 7th floor was a real highlight, with a huge range of hot and cold dishes, breads, local honey, butter, cheeses, meats, eggs, ripe fruit, fresh juice, and excellent coffee. It’s also a lovely place to watch the sunrise beside the Acropolis. The staff were polite, professional, well trained, and eager to help. There were plenty of people around, and the whole crew was wonderful. Our room was clean and well equipped, with a great bed, a bathtub, and turndown service. Getting around was easy. The King George is within walking distance or a short taxi or Uber ride from several shopping areas and most major ancient sites, including the Acropolis. It’s one of the few luxury hotels that really earns the description. Simply excellent.
