Marina Hotel

We didn’t feel safe in the area at all. The streets were filthy, with trash everywhere and used drug needles. Several locals told us to be careful, especially at night, mentioning frequent trouble with aggressive people and even threats involving needles or knives. The room was dirty and moldy, with hair and crumbs all over the bed. It looked as though the sheets had been changed without properly cleaning anything. We’d booked a supposed 3-bed room, but it was clearly only suitable for two. Then at 1:40 AM, while we were already in bed, someone began banging aggressively on our door. We were half naked, so didn’t open right away. When my girlfriend eventually opened it, a hotel staff member came into our room without permission and went straight to the balcony because a friend was quietly talking with a neighbor outside. He shouted and threatened to call the police, though nothing had happened. One of the most disrespectful and unprofessional hotel experiences we’ve had. Definitely not recommended. Honestly, 0 stars would be more accurate.

Ordering food was handy. There’s a QR code linked to the room for delivery, and reception always called when it arrived. Wolt delivered without any trouble too. You can weigh yourself downstairs or use the massage chair up the first flight of stairs. The hotel is within walking distance of the Metro and buses. The neighborhood outside isn’t the best, but I felt safe walking both during the day and at night. I really enjoyed my stay. Service was good, the beds were made daily, and we got fresh towels. Breakfast had good options. Changing from a single to a double room was very cheap, and breakfast and tourist tax added 13.50 per night. I’d definitely stay again on my next trip to Athens and recommend the hotel.

The sixth-floor balcony had a nice view over the city. We spotted bats in the evening and friendly pigeons during the day. Service was lovely and the breakfast buffet was nice. It’s a good budget hotel, though the beds were rather hard. The lift stopped working during a power outage while we were staying there. There was a hair dryer.

The staff are genuinely polite and helpful, and the location is excellent for tourists. No one bothers you, though the neighborhood feels a little gloomy and dirty. I’ve taken off one star for the rooms because the shower and toilet need a bit of an upgrade, and the room needs painting.
