Athens Odeon Hotel

Room 46 was a shock when I arrived. The floor and furniture were worn, the kettle was broken, there were no tea or coffee cups, and the pillowcase was yellow. The bathroom was small and dark, with taps covered in heavy deposits that didn't shine, and the shower leaked at the joints. I reported that on Tuesday evening. The manager, an older person around 80, saw it on Wednesday, but it wasn't fixed until Friday. On Thursday evening, the toilet started leaking too. I told reception and fixed it myself, then mentioned it again Friday morning, but they didn't care. The windows offered no soundproofing at all, and breakfast was dull. They heated the omelet, coffee came from a huge 120-cup container, and there was only one tea option, chamomile or black. The sugar containers on the table were dirty. The hotel photos on booking platforms look like they were taken right after renovation. The place has many problems and management doesn't care. I stayed five nights and left disappointed. It felt disrespectful to customers. Avoid it.

Costan at reception was a big help. He suggested a great, inexpensive restaurant where we ate two nights, and gave us useful tips on sights and getting to the airport. They also let us start breakfast 20 minutes early because of our excursions and Acropolis visit. Breakfast was very good. The hotel is close to the metro and many sights are an easy walk away, an unbeatable base for enjoying Athens. It shows its age, but is well looked after. Our room and bathroom were incredibly clean, even under the beds where dust usually gathers. The bathroom was quite small and had a shower curtain, but it was spotless. I stayed three nights with two friends and appreciated the experience.

The room was damp and dirty, and there seemed to be mold on the walls. The receptionist was very unpleasant and spoke to us rudely. This felt like a scam, since the online pictures looked nothing like what we found. I can't recommend this hotel to anyone.

For an affordable stay, this place is just fine. It was clean, the service was good, and the price felt fair. Monastiraki was a convenient 5-10 minute walk away. Athens has nicer places if you're willing to pay twice as much, but I really liked this hotel's value and location.
