Pergamos

I want to stand up for this hotel after reading the bad reviews. I stayed with a friend in late June -25. The night staff greeted us warmly and told us which streets to avoid. Our room was spotlessly clean, with no sign of roaches or bugs. The stairway had beautiful wall paintings, the beds were comfy, and the bathroom was okay. We were on the fifth or sixth floor and could see the Acropolis in the distance. There were homeless people in the street, but we never felt unsafe. After a few days we even said hello to some of them. They’re the ones suffering, not us. Omonia isn’t far, and I don’t think it’s as bad as its reputation suggests for tourists, though it’s hard on locals. There are nice local restaurants very close by too. Bed bugs often travel with guests and are very hard to get rid of. I’m quite sure the hotel does all it can to deal with them, and I hope it succeeds. Pergamos deserves better reviews.

The bed was comfortable enough, though the decor could use an update. For the price, you get about what you'd expect.

We found signs of bed bugs in both rooms, along with cockroaches in the first one, so we left at 2am and didn't stay the remaining nights. We had booked June 11-14 for 3 nights, and within two hours of arriving we found the problem. The front desk guy was nice and moved us from room 401 to 505, but the mattress there had even more traces of bed bugs. Thankfully, we didn't get bitten or infected. After a week of trying to contact the hotel, they still refused a refund and offered no apology. Really disappointing and awful. The photos show the bed bug evidence.

The location is close to transport and the hotel is inexpensive, so I don't regret staying, though I wouldn't choose it again. Outside, we felt uneasy when we first arrived, with homelessness in the area. After 4 to 5 days we were more comfortable. The people around us didn't bother us, and the locals seemed pleasant. It felt rough, but we didn't see violence or people who looked rough. Inside, most of the staff were nice and the hotel seemed clean at first. The rooms were pleasant, with air conditioning, a fridge, a decent shower, TV and a nice balcony. But we found cockroaches in the bathroom and one in the bedroom, plus unidentified stains on the sheets. We put the duvet cover over the stained mattress for another layer. Those were the main problems, but sleeping with cockroaches around was pretty disgusting.
