Athenian Callirhoe Hotel

The hotel's cleanliness and central location were the positives for our group of fifty, which included parents, sixth-grade children, and three teachers. Major places such as the Acropolis and Acropolis Museum were within walking distance. The staff's attitude was a serious problem, though. We were repeatedly scolded over small things. After arriving from Thessaloniki following many hours of travel, the children were told off for gathering in small groups in their rooms. The next morning at breakfast, everyone was reprimanded for moving chairs, even though we were the only people in the dining area. It soon felt clear that children weren't welcome. Cleanliness and location earn two stars, but the unfriendly, strict treatment makes this a poor choice for families or school groups.

The rooms were quite spacious and well appointed, and breakfast was very good. It's a great place to stay in Athens, close to the historic Plaka area, with plenty of history, restaurants, and more nearby. The Acropolis is very close too.

The rooftop views were beautiful, and the restaurant was lovely. The rooms were restful, the staff friendly, and breakfast terrific. The location was incredible, with plenty of shops and restaurants in every direction.

We really enjoyed the gym and especially the sauna. The room, though, was far too hot in February, when the air conditioning wasn't running. Other guests seemed to have the same issue. We ended up sleeping with the windows open and putting up with street noise. The bathroom mirror was set at such an odd angle that we had to lean over to see ourselves. Breakfast was also a letdown compared with other places we've stayed in Greece and Albania. The hotel is fine, just nothing special.
