The Link Athens

Zoe was a friendly host who answered our questions over WhatsApp. She even offered clean towels, though they weren’t included in our stay. We didn’t feel unsafe in the neighborhood, despite its reputation. There were police around now and then, but what stood out to us were the cozy restaurants, eclectic atmosphere, and Makalu ice cream parlor, which I’d rate 5/5. With the reasonable price, I’d recommend this accommodation. A few things to keep in mind: the bed and pillows weren’t the most comfortable, though that’s personal preference, and our apartment was noisy because we had loud neighbors. Light sleepers may struggle. The nearest metro is a 10-minute walk, and walking around Athens can be tiring because of the hills and poor pavements. A tip: the five-day public transport pass is much cheaper than buying new tickets every day if you end up using the metro more than once.

The flat is post-modern, with very good furnishings and a stylish bathroom. I’ve never paid so little for a place with this kind of quality. It’s in a fantastic spot in Exarchia (Hexarchia), Athens. I walked to the Archaeological Museum in eight minutes and the Olympieion in twenty. If you’d rather not walk, there are plenty of taxis to the city center for 4€, no kidding. Highly recommend!

We got such a shock walking through this area that we started reading about it and asking people. We feel lucky nothing happened, as we heard many stories of people being robbed. I rarely write reviews, but I feel I should warn other travelers. We arrived around 3pm and were fortunate to find another hotel for the night. I believe the risk of getting mugged or pickpocketed is significant if you arrive here at night, so beware of reviews that say otherwise. Stay away from Omonoia metro station and the surrounding area. We saw junkies, homeless people, and pickpockets, and it seemed there was nobody to help if something happened, no police or officials. Please be safe and stay in a safe tourist area.

We only stayed one night at Miranda’s place last Saturday, but it was a really nice experience. The room was very clean and the location was perfect. Miranda gave us helpful ideas for things to do nearby and brought us some amazing traditional Greek sweets the next morning. She’s a great host, and I recommend her place. We’ll definitely return next time we’re in Athens.
