The Newel Acropolis

We had a comfortable and lovely four-day stay at Newel Acropolis Hotel. Our room was spacious, with a handy kitchenette, a microwave, and a small supply of crockery, cutlery, pots, and pans. We didn’t cook, but someone could use the kitchen to heat a ready-made meal instead of going out. There’s a roomy breakfast area on the ground floor and a small elevator serving all floors. The main downside was the large window, which had only a veil and no curtains. Morning sun came in brightly and woke us earlier than we wanted. The location was very convenient: restaurants near the Acropolis metro station and the Acropolis Museum were just a five-minute walk away. Meeting points for our day trips to Mycenae, Nafplio and Epidaurus, and Ancient Corinth were only 4-5 minutes away too, handy for tours starting at 8:15 am since breakfast began at 7:30 am.

The breakfast was terrible, the worst we had at any hotel on our trip around Greece. Everything tasted like the cheapest frozen version, even the yogurt. The gym disappointed too, with cheap, wobbly machines that made it hard to get a proper workout. The location isn’t very convenient for much besides the Acropolis, and the nearby restaurants are overpriced tourist traps, so I probably wouldn’t stay again. The staff were incredibly kind and friendly, and every interaction felt welcoming. Our room was big, clean, and comfortable, with a well-stocked kitchenette. It faced away from the avenue, so the noise was fine.

It’s a 10-minute walk from the hotel to Plaka and the Acropolis. My room was clean and comfortable, but there wasn’t much space to put things down or sit for a moment, so better seating would’ve helped. It also would’ve been nice to have some outdoor space at the hotel.

The staff were incredibly kind and helpful, always offering restaurant suggestions and tips on hidden spots around Athens. Breakfast had plenty of fresh, delicious local options too. My room was modern, spotless, and comfortable, with thoughtful touches like a Nespresso machine and great lighting. The hotel is only a short walk from the Acropolis and Plaka, yet quiet enough at night. I stayed a few nights at Newel Acropolis and was really impressed. It felt more like a small luxury hotel than a typical boutique stay. I’d definitely return and recommend it to anyone visiting Athens.
