The room was modern and very clean, and although the surrounding area looked a bit run down, we never felt unsafe. We stayed two months ago, but the laundromat on the ground floor had a problem and we couldn’t do our laundry there. That’s why we gave it four stars instead of five.
There were no staff on site, and the basement was flooded with sewage. It smelled awful and seemed like a health hazard, with no sign that anyone was actively fixing it. They did give us a full refund when we asked, but hadn't warned us beforehand. The neighborhood was horrific too: grimy, graffiti-covered streets and people passed out or acting erratically. If you want a good visit to Athens, stay near the Acropolis and avoid this place.
The room was very clean, and the internet worked well. The air conditioning was only moderately effective, though, and the bed and pillows were very uncomfortable. Hot water ran out quickly, there was no soap, and the toilet paper wasn’t enough. Basic toiletries and things like slippers were missing too. The hotel is close to the metro, but the walk there felt uncomfortable because we saw many homeless people and people using substances, which made us feel somewhat unsafe. Nobody met us on arrival, despite having been told someone would help us store our luggage. A housekeeping woman happened to help us sort things out. She didn’t speak English, but was extremely kind. We never got replies to requests we’d already sent, then were told we should have contacted them earlier. Check-in and check-out were rigid, with no flexibility for arriving early or leaving late, and the whole experience felt impersonal. We weren’t satisfied, especially at this price, since better alternatives are available.
For the price, the room is really nice: clean, spacious, and with everything you could need. The neighborhood looks a bit run down, but that’s not the hotel’s fault.
The Wi-Fi was the only good part, fast enough to look for another place. We were let down by the stay and left wanting a refund for at least one night after asking to leave early. They refused, citing policy, and Booking.com wasn’t helpful either. The only other money issue was the promised refund of the cleaning fee after the check-in mess. I’m still waiting for it to show up in my account. We arrived at 3:50 PM, although check-in was supposed to be at 3:00. The cleaner, rather than a host, told us to come back in 30 minutes. We finally got in at 4:40, with her still there, so we wasted almost two hours. The apartment wasn’t worth the wait. It smelled like dirty mop water, the sheets didn’t feel clean, and the bed was rock hard. The pillows were just as hard, maybe worse. There was noise all night from the street, with yelling and cars, as well as footsteps, elevators, and slamming doors inside. The area didn’t feel safe either. We saw people shooting drugs in the street and what looked like drug deals. The keypad on the front door was broken, and at midnight I got stuck outside without my phone until someone else let me in. You have to turn on the hot water 30 minutes ahead if you want a shower. We tried to get more help with the stay, but nothing worked out. It felt nothing like what we expected, and was a miserable way to spend time in Athens.
